The Sound of Leaving
Just another Sunday afternoon
Joseph is playing upstairs
The stereo plays a weary tune
That confirms the fact that nobody cares
Father is complaining about the rain
Mother is working weekend in the shop
Joseph is pretending that he flies a plane
'Til Father's angry voice tells him to stop
The song comes to an end
And in the silence he hear the closing door
It's the sound he's spent his whole life grieving
It was the sound of his father leaving
Just another Friday night
Joseph is lying naked in his bed
A woman in the room is trying to pick a fight
But he didn't pay attention to what she just said
She slips into her miniskirt
And then says something about her money
She gets her fifty bucks and nobody is hurt
And she says something about his dick but it's not funny
The hooker's walking out the door
And she slams it shut behind her
He feels a pain in the chest he's breath is heaving
Cause his wife slammed the door like that when she was leaving
Four a.m., early Tuesday morning
Joseph is standing on the roof
His colleague will say "He didn't give no warning,
But lately he was seeming so aloof"
There's still no traffic in the street
Beneath him is the little, weel-mowed lawn
He's standing on the roof with naked feet
Waiting for the crack of dawn
He sees the sun come up
Takes a small step and fills his lunges
He's breathing the air his body is cleaving
But he makes no sound as he is leaving
No, Joseph makes no sound as he is leaving
